Etymology: < Aberdeen, the name of a city in north-eastern Scotland.The name of the city is first attested (as Aberdon , Aberden ) in Latin charters of the late 12th cent.; compare Scottish Gaelic Abberdeon (12th cent. in Bk. of Deer), and also post-classical Latin Abirdonensis , Aberdonensis (adjective) of or belonging to Aberdeen (1136 as Abbirdonensis ). With Aberdeen man (compare quot. 1642 at sense 1) compare earlier Aberdeensman (late 16th cent.: see Sc. National Dict. at Aberdeen).
