单词 hyne
释义

hyneadv.

/hʌɪn/
Forms: Also Middle English hyn, hyene, heyn(n)e, heine, Middle English hien, Middle English–1600s hine, (1700s hind).
Etymology: A northern (chiefly Scots) word, synonymous with southern Middle English hen n.1, ‘hence’, but apparently of different origin, as Old English hionan , heonan would not normally be represented by hyne . The ordinary northern word for ‘hence’ was hethen adv., of which hyne was perhaps a contraction, as also whyne , thyne = Middle English hweðen , þeðen , whence, thence. Compare also syne adv. and conj. < sīðen (Old Norse síðan).
Obsolete exc. dialect.
