Compare earlier hackbushier n., hackbutter n., and hackbuteer n.Compare Catalan arcabusser (a1561), Spanish arcabucero (a1526), Portuguese arcabuzeiro (1537), Italian archibugiere (a1519), and German Arkebusier (1558 with reference to the Spanish army as arcabusier ).
