Forms: Also 1600s (1800s dialect) hunsup.
Originally the hunt is up, name of an old song and its tune, sung or played to awaken huntsmen in the morning, and also used as a dance. Hence allusively:
a. A song sung or tune played to rouse any one; an early morning song.
