Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin archaeologicus (1705 or earlier), archaiologicus (1651 or earlier), and its etymon (ii) Hellenistic Greek ἀρχαιολογικός < ancient Greek ἀρχαιολογία archaeology n. + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare earlier archaeological adj.Compare French archéologique (1796 or earlier).
Now somewhat rare.
