Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin honorosus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin honorosus honourable (a636 in Isidore) < classical Latin honor honour n. + -ōsus -ous suffix. Compare Old French honeureus, Middle French honoreux (c1270, rare), Old Occitan honoros.Compare note at honour n. on the spelling history.
Somewhat rare in later use.
