Etymology: Apparently < honey n. + fugle v.1 Perhaps compare English regional (Lincolnshire) connyfogle, English regional (Westmoreland, Lincolnshire, and Nottinghamshire) collyfogle, and English regional (Yorkshire) gallyfuggle, all in similar senses.
U.S. colloquial. Now somewhat dated.
