Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French heroner.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman heroner, herouner, heruner (adjective) (of a falcon) trained to hunt herons (c1200 or earlier; compare Middle French haironnier , French héronnier , third quarter of the 14th cent.), (noun) falcon trained for heron-hawking (13th cent. or earlier) < heroun , herun , heron heron n. + -er -er suffix2.With the β. forms compare the β. forms at heron n.
Obsolete (rare and historical in later use).
A falcon trained for heron-hawking. Also more fully falcon heroner. Cf. heron-hawking n. at heron n. Compounds 4.
