Etymology: < Anyang (Chinese Ānyáng), the name of a city in the Chinese province of Henan, near which the ruins of the Shang-dynasty city of Yin (Chinese Yīn, the type site for the Anyang period) are situated.

Designating the site near the city of Anyang in the Chinese province of Henan at which the ruins of Yin, the final capital city of the Shang dynasty, are situated; (also) designating other sites associated with it. Hence: designating the finds made at these sites, or the period in which they were occupied (13th to 11th centuries bc).
