单词 applot
释义

applotv.

Brit. /əˈplɒt/, U.S. /əˈplɑt/
Forms: 1600s–1700s aplot, 1600s–1700s applott, 1600s– applot.
Origin: Apparently either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or perhaps (ii) a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: a- prefix1, plot n.; a- prefix1, plot v.1; allot v.
Etymology: Apparently < a- prefix1 + either plot n. or plot v.1, probably by analogy with the relationship between allot v. and lot n. (hence apprehending allot v. as also showing a- prefix1), unless simply an alteration of allot v. after either plot n. or plot v.1 Compare applotment n.
Now historical.
transitive. Chiefly in Ireland: to apportion (a tax to be raised on property) between those taxed; to assess (the rate of tax). Also in extended use.
