A body of water kept at a particular height, esp. in order to provide a supply at sufficient pressure for a mill, turbine, etc.; the height of such a body of water, as a measure of the resulting pressure; (hence) pressure expressed in terms of the height of water that would produce it (cf. pressure head n. 1; see also Phrases 3q(a)).
