释义

apple-squiren.

Brit. /ˈaplskwʌɪə/, U.S. /ˈæpəlˌskwaɪ(ə)r/
Forms: see apple n. and squire n.
Origin: Apparently formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: apple n., squire n.

Now rare and archaic.
A male companion of a woman of ill-repute; spec. (a) a harlot's servant or personal attendant; (b) a ‘kept’ man, a gigolo; (c) a pimp.
