Etymology: In 16th cent. < French arboriste , now refashioned as herboriste : see Littré, and compare arbour n. In later use < Latin arbor tree + -ist suffix; so in modern French; arbolist was after Spanish arbol tree.
a. A keeper of a ‘herber,’ a herbalist. Obsolete.
