Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: English *(tō) gōdre hǣle.

Compare Old Icelandic góðu heilli at an auspicious time ( < the dative singular neuter of góð good adj. + the dative singular of heill good fortune: see hail n.2); some forms of the English word apparently show remodelling with hail n.2 Compare good heal at heal n. 2b, and also (to) evil hele at heal n. 2c, wrother-heal n. and adv.
Obsolete.
A. adv.
More fully to goderheal. With good fortune, fortunately, profitably.
