Etymology: < classical Latin sūmen sow's udder (eaten by the Romans as a delicacy), in post-classical Latin also internal organ, especially the omentum (from 12th cent. in British sources), belly (14th cent. in a British source) < sūgere to suck (see suck v.) + -men (see -ment suffix).

Obsolete.
