gold mohur
More fully gold mohur. A gold coin used in India from the 16th cent. onward. Also called dinar.Mohurs worth 15 rupees were struck by the government of British India from 1835 to 1891; as legal tender, they were superseded by the British sovereign in 1891. The mohur continued to be used in Indian states outside direct British rule until the 1930s.
