Etymology: < modern Latin glōttis, < Greek γλωττίς, < γλῶττα variant of γλῶσσα tongue.
The opening at the upper part of the trachea, or windpipe, and between the vocal cords, which, by its dilatation and contraction, contributes to the modulation of the voice.
