Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on Latin lexical items. Etymons: globe n., -iferous comb. form.
Etymology: < globe n. + -iferous comb. form, after scientific Latin globifer (1775 as a specific name) and globiferus (1770 or earlier as a specific epithet).
Biology.
Having a globe or bulb at the end of a stem. In later use: (Zoology) designating a type of (often venomous) echinoid pedicellaria which has this structure.
