Etymology: < modern Latin Gibberella (generic name of the fungus G. fujikuroi, from cultures of which gibberellin was first isolated), diminutive of the generic name Gibbera , < Latin gibber hump: see -in suffix1.
Any of numerous compounds which are chemically related to gibberellic acid and which are present in many higher plants as growth regulators; their characteristic effects include elongation of the stem and other parts of the plant and the promotion of germination and flowering.
