Origin: A borrowing from Latin; partly modelled on a Latin lexical item, and partly modelled on a Greek lexical item. Etymon: Latin geographicus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin geographicus geographic adj. (see -ic suffix 2), after post-classical Latin geographica, neuter plural (1473 or earlier), Hellenistic Greek τὰ γεωγραϕικά (neuter plural), both denoting a geographical treatise. In sense 2 compare graphics (see graphic n.).
1. With indeterminate grammatical agreement. Geographical science, geographical facts; (also) a treatise on this, a geography. Obsolete.
