1. Chiefly at Oxford and Cambridge Universities: a member of a class of undergraduates entitled to certain privileges; spec. a wealthy or aristocratic undergraduate paying higher fees for the privilege of dining at a table separate from those of other undergraduates, and for exemption from lectures, exercises, and other academic responsibilities, and distinguished from other undergraduates by special academic dress. Cf. fellow commoner n. 3a. Now historical and rare.At Cambridge University, fellow commoner n. 3a was the more usual term.
