Etymology: < Middle French genitable (1503 in semence genitable sperm) < classical Latin genitābilis capable of generating < genit- , past participial stem of gignere to beget (see genital adj.) + -ābilis -able suffix.Quot. 1634 reflects a misapprehension of Paré's Latin original: etsi semen..genitale sit ‘although there may be sperm’.
Obsolete. rare.
Of semen: capable of reproduction.
