Origin: A borrowing from Latin; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymon: Latin genianus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin genianus (1806 or earlier) < ancient Greek γένειον chin (see genio- comb. form) + classical Latin -ānus -an suffix, after French génien (1803 or earlier). Compare slightly earlier genial adj.2
