Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: geo- comb. form, textile n.
Etymology: < geo- comb. form + textile n.
Any of various strong textiles or other materials used, in the form of sheets, for the protection or retention of soil, rubble, water, etc., in fields such as civil engineering and landscaping. Frequently attributive.Geotextiles are typically man-made materials such as polyester or polypropylene which are woven or punched so as to be permeable, but also include waterproof membranes (cf. geomembrane n.).
