Etymology: < geo- comb. form + -phyte comb. form, after German Geophyt (F. W. C. Areschoug 1896, in Acta Univ. Lundensis 31 1).
Botany.
A perennial plant which propagates by means of underground buds or has an underground storage organ such as a bulb, corm, or rhizome.
