Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Garbo.
Etymology: < the name of Greta Garbo (born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson; 1905–90), Swedish-born U.S. film actress, who was renowned for her reclusive behaviour.The actress legally changed her surname to the more distinctive Garbo in 1923 on the advice of her mentor Mauritz Stiller, then Sweden's foremost film director, who had cast her as the female lead in his film Gösta Berlings Saga (1924).
