Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French froideur.
Etymology: < French froideur coldness of manner, indifference (a1628; 12th cent. in Old French as freidur , froidor in the sense ‘coldness’), coolness or reserve between people (1671) < froid cold (see refroid v.) + -eur -eur suffix.
1. Coldness of manner; indifference, disdain, reserve.In quot. 1645: a sign or expression of indifference or disdain.
