Any of several nocturnal birds constituting the Australasian and tropical Asian family Podargidae, related to the nightjars and having cryptic plumage, a large head, and a very wide bill; esp. (more fully tawny frogmouth) the morepork, Podargus strigoides, which is widespread in Australia. Also: (in full owlet frogmouth) an owlet-nightjar (family Aegothelidae).
