Etymology: Old English foran (Northumbrian fora ), forne adverb = Old Saxon foran , forana , Old High German forna (Middle High German, modern German vorne , vorn ); < root of for prep., conj., n., and adv., fore adv.The adjective appears to be an English development from the adverb, and not an adoption of the Old Norse forn ancient.
