Etymology: < fossula n. + -ate suffix2, originally (in entomological use) after scientific Latin fossulatus (1806), fossulata (1817), specific names of beetles.
Chiefly Botany and Entomology.
Having, or consisting of, one or more fossulae (chiefly fossula n. 2).Now rare in entomology.
