单词 foxglove
释义

foxgloven.

Brit. /ˈfɒksɡlʌv/, U.S. /ˈfɑksˌɡləv/
Etymology: Old English foxes glófa (? plural) see fox n. and glove n.The reason for the second part of the name is obvious, as the flower resembles a finger-stall in shape; compare the Latin name. Why the plant was associated with the fox is not so clear; but compare Norwegian revbjelde = ‘fox bell’.
1.
a. The popular name of Digitalis purpurea, a common ornamental flowering plant.
