Etymology: < foot n. + slog v. (compare slog v. 2 or slog v. 3a). Compare foot-slog n. and slightly earlier foot-slogging n., foot-slogger n.Much of the early evidence for words in this group refers to military campaigns in southern Africa in the 1890s.
Chiefly colloquial.
intransitive. To walk or march over a long distance or in difficult conditions. Also transitive with it.
