单词 aneurysm
释义

aneurysmn.

Brit. /ˈanjᵿrɪz(ə)m/, U.S. /ˈænjəˌrɪzəm/
Forms:

α. late Middle English aneuresma, late Middle English–1600s aneurysma, late Middle English–1700s aneurisma, 1500s–1600s aneurismata (plural).

β. late Middle English 1600s– aneurisme, 1600s– aneurism, 1600s– aneurysm, 1700s anurism.

Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin aneurisma; Greek ἀνεύρυσμα.
Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin aneurisma (4th cent.), and its etymon (ii) Hellenistic Greek ἀνεύρυσμα (or ἀνευρυσμός ) dilatation < ancient Greek ἀνευρύνειν to dilate ( < ἀνα- ana- prefix + εὐρύνειν to widen < εὐρύς wide: see eurythermal adj.) + -σμα , extended form of -μα (see -oma comb. form; the variant ἀνευρυσμός shows -σμός, extended form of -μος, suffix forming nouns). Compare Middle French, French aneurisme (second half of the 16th cent.), Catalan aneurisma , Spanish aneurisma (both end of the 15th cent.), Portuguese aneurisma (1601; < French), Italian aneurisma (a1730). Compare also (apparently in sense 1a) Old English neurisn , probably an independent borrowing of post-classical Latin aneurisma with aphesis of the initial syllable and alteration of the ending, perhaps by association with paralisin paralysis n. (compare quot. eOE at paralysis n. 1a):eOE Bald's Leechbk. (Royal) (1865) i. lix. 130 Wiþ neurisne, banwyrt do on sure fletan & on hunig, æges geola meng tosomne, smire mid.
