单词 anencephalic
释义

anencephalicadj.n.

Brit. /ˌanɛnsᵻˈfalɪk/, /ˌanɛŋkɛˈfalɪk/, U.S. /ˌænˌɛnsəˈfælɪk/
Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: post-classical Latin anencephalicus , anencephalus , -ic suffix
Etymology: Either (i) < post-classical Latin anencephalicus (1821 or earlier, rare), or (ii) < post-classical Latin anencephalus (see anencephalous adj.) + -ic suffix, perhaps after French anencéphale (see note). Compare slightly earlier anencephalous adj. and later anencephaly n.Compare German anencephalisch (1821 or earlier), and also post-classical Latin aencephalicus (1811 or earlier, rare), Italian aencefalico (1810 or earlier). The passage cited in quot. 1821 introduces an account written in French, which does not show this or any related word, but its author used anencéphale (see anencephalous adj.) elsewhere in 1821, both as adjective and noun.
