Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a borrowing from French. Etymons: acoup v.1, -ment suffix; French acoupement.
Etymology: Either < acoup v.1 + -ment suffix, or < Anglo-Norman acoupement (although this is first attested slightly later: c1350; < acouper acoup v.1 + -ment -ment suffix). Compare post-classical Latin accupamentum accusation (1255, c1290 in British sources).
Obsolete.
The action of accusing; an accusation.
