Etymology: < Anchisaurus n. + -id suffix³, after scientific Latin Anchisauridae, family name (O. C. Marsh 1885, in Amer. Jrnl. Sci. 129 169, in the same paragraph as the passage cited in quot. 1885 at Anchisaurus n.).

Palaeontology.

Any dinosaur of the former family Anchisauridae, which comprised sauropodomorphs related to Anchisaurus; also (more widely), any anchisaur or Anchisaurus-like form.
