Etymology: < classical Latin foeditāt-, foeditās unpleasant or offensive quality, foulness, ugliness, unsightliness, disgrace, shame, infamy, in post-classical Latin also excrement (Vulgate), unpleasant object, nuisance (from 13th cent. in British sources) < foedus foede adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).
Obsolete.
