Etymology: < re- prefix + carriage n., perhaps after recarry v. Compare post-classical Latin recariagium carriage back (1316, 1328, 1471 in British sources). N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (rīkæ·ridʒ) /riːˈkærɪdʒ/.
Obsolete.
The action or an act of carrying, bearing, or conveying back or again; esp. the reconveyance of merchandise. Also: the fact of being carried back or again. Frequently in collocation with carriage.
