Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: adorn v.
Etymology: Apparently an alteration of adorn v., arising from reanalysis of the initial a- of the α. forms at that entry as a reduced form of an- prefix1, by confusion of a- prefix5 with a- prefix3 (compare an- prefix1, on- prefix, and see discussion at those entries). Compare earlier anoure v. and see discussion at that entry. Compare also orn v.The β. forms show reanalysis of the α. forms by confusion of an- prefix1 with en- prefix1; compare similarly Anglo-Norman enourner (1397 or earlier), variant of aourner adorn v. In sense 2 apparently by confusion with anoure v. (see further discussion at that entry).
