Etymology: < Old French ferrier < Latin ferrārius, < ferrum iron, in medieval Latin (often ferrus) horseshoe. The synonym ferrer n.2, current in English in 14–16th cent., is a different formation.
1. One who shoes horses; a shoeing-smith; hence, also one who treats the diseases of horses.
