Etymology: < antechamber n. + -ing suffix1, apparently chiefly after verbal constructions in German and French (see antechamber v.). Compare later antechamber v.
Now rare.
Waiting in or as if in an antechamber; a period spent doing this. Hence: the action of spending time trying to win favour from an influential person.
