A genus of shrubs and trees of the family Myrtaceae with glossy evergreen foliage, widespread in tropical and subtropical regions, especially in the New World tropics. Also: a plant of this genus.Valid publication of the genus name: Linnaeus Species Plantarum (1753) 470. The genus formerly included the clove tree, Syzygium aromaticum, and the allspice tree, Pimenta dioica.
