Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ἠθοποιητικός.
Etymology: < Byzantine Greek ἠθοποιητικός expressive of character (apparently only attested in the adverb ἠθοποιητικῶς ) < ἦθος character (see ethos n.) + ποιητικός (see -poetic comb. form). Compare post-classical Latin ethopoeiacus expressive of character (4th cent.). Compare earlier ethopoeia n.Apparently reborrowed in the late 19th cent.
That represents a person's character or manners; of the nature of ethopoeia. Chiefly with reference to ancient Greek drama.
