释义 | -upsuffix The adverb up n. appended to verbs (nouns, etc.) as a suffix forming substantival or adjectival compounds (usually derived from a simple verbal phr.: see up adv.1 II.), implying an instance or spell of an activity, an abundance or abuse of something, characterized by the action of the specified vb., etc. Such combinations are typically disyllabic and stressed on the first element: e.g. balls-, beer-, booze-, brush-, foul-, fuck-, mop-, nosh-, show-, sign-up, see at main element; blow-, break-, build-, call-, clean-, close-, cock-, cover-, dust-, flare-, hold-, jam-, knees-, lay-, link-, make-, mark-, mock-, muck-, mug-, pick-, pile-, pin-, press-, pull-, punch-, push-, round-, run-, set-, shape-, smash-, speed-, stack-, stand-, stick-, tip-, tune-, walk-, warm-up, see as main entries.
