Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin anacrusticus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin anacrusticus characterized by anacrusis (1796 or earlier) < Hellenistic Greek ἀνακρουστικός that rebounds (of light) < ancient Greek ἀνα- ana- prefix + κρουστικός fit for striking (see note), after ancient Greek ἀνακρούειν (see anacrusis n.).Ancient Greek κρουστικός fit for striking is < κρουστός played by striking (although this is apparently first attested later, in Hellenistic Greek; < ancient Greek κρούειν (stem κρουσ- ) to strike (see anacrusis n.) + -τός , suffix forming agent nouns) + -ικός -ic suffix.
