Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek ἔντερον , -oid suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ἔντερον intestine (see enteron n.) + -oid suffix, originally after Italian enteroideo (1780 or earlier; quot. 1834 is from a review of a work by an Italian scientist); compare post-classical Latin enteroideus (1778 or earlier). Compare slightly later enteron n.Compare ancient Greek ἐντεροειδής resembling intestines.
