Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ἐπικριτικός.

Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ἐπικριτικός adjudicatory < ἐπικριτός capable of determination or resolution ( < ἐπικρίνειν to judge, decide (see epicrisis n.) + -τός , suffix forming verbal adjectives) + -ικός -ic suffix. In sense 1 originally after German epikritisch (1839 or earlier; > French épicritique (1842 or earlier)).

1. Medicine. Of the nature of a critical review, summary or discussion of a case, condition, or body of research; taking the form of an epicrisis (epicrisis n. 2). Now rare.
