Etymology: < French enlace-r = Provençal enlassar , Spanish enlazar , Portuguese enlaçar , Italian inlacciare < late Latin *inlaciāre , < in- (see in- prefix1) + *lacius (Old French las lace n., snare = Italian laccio , Spanish lazo ) < Latin laqueus noose. Compare Latin illaqueāre . In later use taken as < en- prefix1 + lace n.
