A division of insects comprising those that do not undergo metamorphosis (metamorphosis n. 3a); (with plural agreement) insects of this division.Contrasted with Hemimetabola, Holometabola, Metabola.These insects are wingless, and have also been treated as members of the subclass Apterygota (see Apterygota n.). They include silverfish and bristletails, but many are now considered to be members of the class Entognatha of primitive hexapods, rather than of the class Insecta (insects in the strictest sense).
