Etymology: Probably < eliquate v. (although this is first attested slightly later) + -ion suffix1 (compare -ation suffix). Compare earlier liquation n.In sense 2 perhaps after post-classical Latin eliquation-, eliquatio purification, cleansing (4th cent.), removal of liquid matter (5th cent.).
